Where were you born and where do you live now? How does that affect your design sensibility?
I was born in New York but grew up in the suburbs. I knew from a young age I wanted to move to Manhattan. I love the energy, diversity, and culture in New York. There is a wonderful community of designers and artists here which has been a source of inspiration and support. I've traveled all over, but every time I return I fall in love with this city all over again. I think it's one of the best places in the world to be right now.
Who would you say is the most influential graphic designer of the past 50 years? How have they influenced your design?
I am biased, but I would say Stefan Sagmeister. Even before I started working with him, the work always struck a chord with me. His work evokes emotion, whether it's through beauty, wit, humor, craft, sensationalism or sexuality. Working with Stefan has influenced the way I think a design studio should be run. I admire how he can sell almost any idea to a client, and how he has always kept the studio small despite many possibilities to grow.
What is your greatest strength and weakness as a designer or design manager?
My greatest strength is that I am extremely curious and persistent. My biggest weakness is that I get bored rather easily. Although sometimes that can work to my advantage too.
