Students to Watch in 2012
Natalie Sims grew up in sunny Southern California, studying communication in tandem with letterpress printing at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is currently in her second year of the M.F.A. degree program in Communications Design at Pratt Institute. Her thesis studies revolve around an interrogation of objects and a negotiation of the space between matter and mythology. She is living and conspiring in Brooklyn NY.
What have you gained from attending design school?
“Wow, so much. I have grown and pushed myself in ways I never could have predicted. We talk everyday about the future of the profession, and while everyone in the design world seems to be in a state of informed bewilderment about where it’s going, it is very empowering to be at the threshold of the discussion. I am a firm believer that designers are in the business of shaping the material world, and it is exhilarating to be involved in that.”
