Ed O'Brien is a designer, working at Hybrid Design in San Francisco, with clients across a variety of platforms from print to interactive, environmental and film. Originally from Washington State, O'Brien graduated from Academy of Art University in 2003, where he is currently an instructor. In 2008 he was named one of the Art Directors Club Young Guns.
In this economic downturn, name one thing you have done to weather the tough times. Cook more I guess (that answer stinks... really, I am just trying to plan a little better)
If you weren't a designer, what would you be?
I want to say something like paleontologist but I think that paper route might be more accurate.
What's the one thing ALWAYS in your bag that you never leave home without? I try to just remember my wallet and glasses.
If you could spend 15 minutes talking to any person, living or dead, who would it be and why? Orson Welles: I can't think of a more creative figure, not just conceptually, but in finding ways to turn difficult situations or roadblocks into welcome challenges, ultimately enjoying life to the fullest.
If you could work for anyone, a client or on a project, what would it be? I think designing an airport way-finding system would be both interesting and useful.
